Dedication ... Mark Sears Was Up Til 3am Shooting After A Scoreless Performance
Last night did not go well for Mark Sears. He shot 0-5 from the field and only played 21 minutes scoring 0 points. He was so off Oats pulled him to get his head right and when he offered to put him back in the game, Sears declined saying the guys out there were playing better than he was.
Alabama would still go on to win 100-87 despite 0 from Sears. Anyone with a brain sees how deep this team is.
But the point of this blog is not to slurp Bama for being so deep and so loaded. It's to commend Sears on being such a role model. Look at the message this sends to players everywhere. When it's not your night you have two options … sit and sulk and cry about it and make excuses about the balls, the rims, the opponents, the fans etc etc. Basically be a little baby. Or you can do what Sears did and forget the game, wash it off and decide it's never going to happen again by getting in the gym and getting better. The wise Eric Taylor of Friday Night Lights once said "Good Quarterbacks have a short memory." The same can be said for Point Guards.
So let this be a lesson to all the kids out there when a game doesn't go your way, you can sit and sulk or you can be like Sears and respond by working your ass off in the gym. What a role model and what a leader !
